Habitat for Humanity International (HFHI) was founded in 1976 and has been working to provide decent, affordable homes for low-income families ever since. To date, HFHI has built over 300,000 houses around the globe, providing shelter for over 1.5 million people.
Although created as a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian housing ministry, HFHI is fueled by the sweat, charity, and love of volunteers and homeowners who come from all walks of life, all religions and backgrounds. Habitat for Humanity is comprised of many affiliates which are community-level offices that provide service to their respective, local areas. Each affiliate coordinates and organizes its community’s volunteers for the many activities that Habitat institutes in order to raise money for and build homes. There are currently over 1,700 affiliates in the United States and 550 international affiliates in places such as Armenia, Guatemala, New Zealand, and Malaysia to name a few.
The local affiliate that our Campus Chapter works with is Habitat for Humanity of Huron Valley (HHHV), based right here in Ann Arbor. HHHV has provided 84 new or renovated homes to local families since its inception and continues to work hard to provide more and more every day.
