Sleep Out

Sleep Out is Habitat for Humanity at the University of Michigan’s annual advocacy event. As a way to increase awareness about issues related to homelessness and the housing crisis, we spend 24 hours on the Michigan Diag, demonstrating what it might be like to live a day and a night without adequate shelter.

This year, Sleep Out begins Thursday morning at 8:00am on October 8 and will last until 8:00am Friday morning, October 9, 2009.

During the day, we will be the host to tons of fun activities and entertainment, including a giant inflatable Bounce House, Habitat related games, performances by student groups, and of course, free giveaways and food! While we’re having fun on the Diag we will also be promoting Habitat and our cause, while also educating our campus and community about the issues we aim to address and how each individual can join the efforts to fight them!

You can get involved by joining the Sleep Out Pledge Challenge. Attend one of our monthly meetings or stop by our office to obtain a pledge form where you will record how many hours you actually spend on the Diag. Then find your sponsors! Ask family and friends to sponsor you. Each sponsor will pledge a dollar amount for each hour you spend on the Diag. It’s an easy way to raise money while you’re having fun with other Habitat volunteers and members! Plus, you’ll get to see and meet exciting students on campus! You can also recruit an entire team to take the Pledge Challenge. Whether it’s your dorm hallway or your group of friends, you can all join your fundraising efforts and really increase the amount of hours and sponsors for the Challenge. You really don’t want to miss out!!
