Community Relations
The Community Relations Committee focuses on expanding our connections beyond just our campus and into the greater Ann Arbor community. One of the main functions of Community Relations is working with the Delonis Center, the local homeless shelter, located on Huron Rd. Every third and fourth Sunday of the month, a group of 5-7 Habitat volunteers heads to the Delonis Center to staff their Community Kitchen for the afternoon, cooking and providing lunch. The Community Kitchen is a soup kitchen open to the public of Ann Arbor.
In addition to working with the Delonis Center, Habitat also aims to reach out to our community in other various ways. If you are interested in pursuing these goals, consider joining the Community Relations Committee! It’s a great way to become more involved with Habitat, help your community, and earn nails!
Community Relations Committee Oversees:
- Volunteering at the Community Soup Kitchen
- Organizing and working on community based projects for our Habitat chapter
- Working with family support opportunities
If you’re interested in helping out or for more information, contact Emily at egoyert@umich.edu or habitat-community@umich.edu, or attend one of our monthly meetings or stop by one our office hours in the Michigan Union.
